Since the mid 1990's Christopher Campbell aka Norris Man has been struggling to secure himself a place in the forefront of reggae music. Throughout to years he managed to draw notable attention with tunes such as "Persistence", "Hold Onto Your Faith" and "Bad Road", and released the critical acclaimed albums like "Presistence"(2000) and "Better Your Soul" (2001), which were followed by the less interesting and more mediocre sets "World Crisis" (2003) and "Hey Woman" (2004). However, it was the Greensleeves released album "Home & Away" (2006) that brought him the long overdue breakthrough to a wider audience as it turned to be his most consistent and best album to date. It was obvious he was on his way to become one of the brightest stars in contemporary roots and conscious dancehall reggae.

Unfortunately this new Norris Man album doesn't live up to expectations raised very high by its predecessor. "Heat Is On" turns out to be a compilation of tracks/singles he recorded for a variety of producers over the past years, and in most cases these kind of (compilation) albums aren't consistent in terms of quality. So Norris Man's new album is a weak collection of tunes?! No, overall opinion is that it isn't... but it could have been so much better!! While songs such as "Never Turn Away", "This Morning", "Let Me Love You", "Just To See", "One Of Those Days" and the 2004 released single "Heat Is On" more or less decrease the quality level, it's good this set includes efforts like the Supa Hype produced "Nah Hold Back", "For You" across the "Endless" riddim, "Praise Jah", "Hold Your Own", "Nah Love We Culture" and the lovers tune "Remember You". These are the kinda tunes in which the potential of Norris Man comes to full expression.

Hopefully Norris Man does himself a favour and starts looking for a producer who is able to give him the right riddims and knows how to get the best out of him, otherwise it's doubtful he will ever manage to become a true reggae star.
