BIO

Wayne Wonder is consistently one of top singers in Reggae Dancehall music, and his brand new studio album Da Vibe has set genre on fire. The single "Keep Them Coming" is just one of the many international number one chart hits on DA VIBE, and is the first single and video being serviced to Reggae, Urban, and Mainstream media outlets. His string of hits over the past decade has been unprecedented in Reggae music, and along with his solo work has co-written many number one singles with the internationally successful Dancehall deejay, Buju Banton.

He was born VonWayne Charles in Portland, Jamaica on July 26, 1966, and moved to Kingston as a child. The seeds of a productive and long lasting relationship were sown at primary school age when Wayne struck up an acquaintance with Dave Kelly. It was at secondary school where Wayne's thoughtfulness and philosophical nature led to the acquisition of the nickname "Wonder."

In 1985, Colin Roach took Wayne to see the legendary producer, King Tubby. King Tubby helped Wayne to make an original track entitled "Long and Lasting Love". Wayne cites Tubby as one of the most inspirational and important influences in his career to date.

Early 1989 Wayne presented his first big show at the National Arena in Kingston, "The DJ Roll Call", which was an outstanding success. In 1991, Wayne introduced his friend, Buju Banton, to 'Dancehall,' and subsequently to the Jamaican people. It should be noted that Wayne co-wrote Buju's world famous hit 'Murderer' as well as 'Deportee'; both songs are reflections of personal experiences. That year he also released his debut self titled CD for Penthouse Records and musician/producer Dave Kelly who was working under Donovan Germain at the time. He also released the successful albums DON'T HAVE TO and ALL ORIGINAL BOMBSHELL through Penthouse in the mid 90s. He also made an appearance on MCA Records Reggae Sunsplash Live in 1995.

As Dave Kelly began his own hit factory, the Madhouse / Xtra Large labels, Wayne continued his fruitful relationship with Kelly bring him some his biggest hits to date with the worldwide smashes "Joyride" and "Keep Them Coming." Wayne's new album for Madhouse / Xtra Large, DA VIBE (distributed by Artists Only! Records worldwide) contains all of his recent worldwide hits (many still on the top of the Reggae charts) including "Watching You" produced by Dave's brother Tony Kelly (K-Licious), and brings out the raw emotion of his recording from the early days.

Wayne is modest in his achievements and gives credit and respect to his long time friend and collaborator, Dave Kelly, who he cites as, 'my inspiration for creativeness." is currently on the road as a Special Guest on Buju Banton's U.S./Canadian tour from August 1 to Sept. 30.

*NOTE: Don't forget, Wayne has also established his SINGSO label. He already dropped his first riddim release, AMBUSH and is being distributed by Platinum Distribution in Jamaica. With recordings like; "Player Player" by Mr. Easy, "War Forever" by Baby Cham, "Gym" by Frankie Sly, "No Hope" by Alley Cat, "Dancehall Vibe" by Tanto Metro & Devonte, "Gal Yu Gone" by Demo Delgado and of course Wonder's own "Curious". Wayne establishes himself in this extension of the industry - producer/label. To obtain this material, check for these singles at your local record store. If you find they are not carried, request the store's buyer to Platinum Distribution at 876-926-5077, 3 Beechwood Avenue Shop 1, Kingston 5 - Jamaica.
