Henry and Louis… Louis’ (a.k.a. Andy Scholes) love for Roots music started in 1981 when he became a part of the legendary Bristol sound 'Red Eye Hi Power' along side Saul Hooper (King Solomom) and Kev Rogers (Farmer G/ Whitelion). Live sound was the basis of Louis’ musical education. In 1988 Louis met Henry (Jack Lundie) with a background in studio production. Keeping true to Roots wisdom they used the old recording ways of Tubby’s and the world opened up for the duo.

Henry and Louis have been producing Roots music in Bristol since 1990. The main studio was the Vision Factory on Zetland Road. Here they recorded 'Too Late' and the 1st LP Rudiments, 12''Rainbow's and love andf understanding for the More Rockers label. 12'' Deliverance, a number of projects including Purple Penguin. produced for the 'Cup of Tea' label, worked with Bristol sound systems Lokko (Unique Star) Prince Green, Stryker Dread,Ras Zebbi,Dallas, Donette Forte, Steve Harper, Johnny Clark, Willy Williams, Tony Tuff, Daddy Ants, Ghardian, Carosene Oil, Pacey, Leroy Gibbons, Ragga Armagedion, recorded and mixed tracks and dubplates with artists Horace Andy, Preddi, Prince Green, Stryker Dread,Ras Zebbi,Dallas, Donette Forte, Steve Harper, Johnny Clark, Willy Williams, Tony Tuff, Daddy Ants, Ghardian, Carosene Oil, Pacey, Leroy Gibbons, Ragga Twins, 3PM, UB40 (Legalise It) Izyah Davis (Hytal Bosrah).

Andy Scholes (who records with partner Jack Lundie under the name Henry & Louis) packed up some recording equipment and a few tapes of grooves previously laid down by Henry & Louis in collaboration with Blue & Red (aka Rob Smith of Smith & Mighty) and made a pilgrimage to Jamaica, intending to find as many of his reggae heroes as possible and to try getting them into a studio to make an album based on those basic rhythm tracks. Once there, he ended up befriending members of UB40, who offered to let him use their studio if he managed to get the artists together. He succeeded to a greater degree than he could have hoped, convincing such reggae legends as Johnny Clarke, Tony Tuff, and Willie Williams, as well as a number of more obscure talents, to come to Oracabessa and lay vocals over his rhythm tracks. All of the artists contributed exceptional performances, and the results are really rather special. The album's overall feel is rootsy but laid-back, with little of the dread intensity that characterizes much classic roots reggae; although songs like Daddy Ants' "Murderation" and Tippa Irie's "Chant Down Babylon" revisit familiar themes of resistance and apocalypse, there is a pervasive gentleness to the vibe on this project. Several tracks were improvised on the spot; there is a lovely reinterpretation of Bob Marley's "Natural Mystic," and Willie Williams' "Plastic World" came about when he was so taken with the good studio vibe that he insisted on recording a second song.In 1998 henry and louis went on tour with UB40 as the support act around England, with Tippa Irie, master of ceremonies. Andy went went back to Jamaica in 1998 a meeting was set up with Augustus Pablo in his house in Tangerine Hill, Kingston. Unknown to Henry and Louis, Augustus had heard 'Time will Tell' and wanted to tell them that it was a joy to hear the old methods of roots production still alive. Louis was speechless and still to this day remembers clearly the inspiration he felt at Augustus’ compliment.

Henry and Louis are still writing and producing roots music, now in 2008 with Justin Griffith playing an integral part of the team and adding his studio production expertise to the sound. The single ‘Answer’ was released in April 2007, the launch party hosted by Tippa Irie, and supported by fellow local artists Ray Mighty, Rob Smith, DJ Pinch and Dubwize.

As the power of Roots flows, strong & true are the hearts of dedicated people who step in time to this path. Jah bless all players and contributors of music.
