The album 'Let Live' is the fourth collaboration album between Midnite and I Grade Records. Previous albums such as "Nemozian Rasta", "Assini" and "Vijan" got rave reviews in the press and were well received by the public. This brand new 14 track album "pushes, crosses and destroys the boundaries placed on typical reggae music". 'Let Live' is an artful mosaic of roots, jazz, funk, hip hop and African drumming. Unlike many bands who caved in to the popularity of main stream reggae and fashion rastafarian, Midnite decided to stick to their guns and play music from their heart and souls. We would describe the spirit and soul of the album like music set to poems. The maturity of the music is remniscent of the great poet Mutabaruka and the late great Michael Smith, a Jamaican dub poet who was murdered in 1983.
Of course, it is a modern reggae release, but it captures the ethereal spirit of the roots reggae heydays. Laurent "Tippy" Alfred and his crew manage to create a sound as authentic and genuine as the beautiful Island of St Croix. A true compliment to the players of instruments : I Grade producers and musicians Tippy I, Kenyatta and Abja. Also represented on several tunes are Midnite players: Abijah Hicks on guitar and Phil Merchant and Dion Hopkins on drums. Guitarist Tuff Lion and former Burning Spear touring bassist, Gregory "Mr. Bassie" Jackson are featured on several selections as well.
With a strong album like this one it's really unfair to point out highlights, because each song is a unique piece of art of its own. For those unfamiliar with Midnite's output it's good to know that Midnite's music must have the opportunity to creep upon you, as a listener you must commit yourself to the depth and quality of the music so it even might inflame you.
Don't go for less... this is ital and vital!
